Volume pot Value for 40106 based synth

Hello All,
I build the Dual-Tone Generator diagram from this site, except instead of a blend knob I have taken each output to a separate jack. I have wired the output to a 50k ohm pot (input to 3, output 2, ground 1) and it seems that the range of the pot doesn't seem to bring the sound down to complete cutoff. Is this most likely the value of the pot or could something else be wrong?
thanks
RJ

It might be somehting else wrong. IIRC, 10k or above should fade that signal down to nothing. DOuble check the ground connection, thats gotten me more than once.
I use a 100k in my 40106 based stuff, just for sake of ease/availability/thats what my other stuff uses.

Check your wiring a few times, then disconnect all of the wires and do it again... the problem is almost always wiring.
