This works!  Just finished breadboarding it.  I used 50 k pots as I already had them hooked up.

Sweet, glad to hear it works. I worked up a layout using one of those radio shack boards:

Very nice. Glad it's all working  :D

I just got the twojoysticks from Devi Ever so just waiting on the parts from small bear then the project will commence. I'm still trying to figure out how the triangle waves would work, so I'm just hoping for the best on that one.

Oh and dano, I just read the "Meet the Beev" part of your site and it was hilarious. Especially the caption of the picture lol.

How would one use a tone generator effectively?
Like, what would you use them for? How in a musical situation?

Well, the small one I made with just one joystick was good for making noises... maybe ambient kind of stuff. Without an easy to use volume control, its not good for a lot of things... thats why I'm going to shoot for a optical resistor for a volume control, or the very least put a volume pedal between it and the amp.

I can assume it can be used almost like a theremin... you can probably make some kind of notes but you have to be damn good.

The one I am making has a membrane pot on it, so it may be similar to the tannerin like in "Good Vibrations" by the Beach boys. Or it may just end up being used like the theremin Jimmy Page uses in Whole Lotta Love, noises.

I'm probably not the most qualified to answer what they are used for because mine isnt totally done yet  :/

now that I think about it, I could write down some values on it to set to produce a set tone, like an A to tune a guitar or something. I have no idea.

So I got all the parts I thought I needed and I tried to get just the triangle wave part to work. It didnt. So I went back to the original schematic to see if I could get that to work. I couldnt.

http://www.elecfree.com/circuit/Oscilla ... -ic-40106/

is what I am trying to get to work. I grounded the square wave part, I am only using a 1uf cap in place of C11 and C12, because thats the smallest I have. for VR1 and R6 I put in the joystick instead of those two.

Now maybe I am just replaceing something with something I shouldnt, but I thought I would check here to see if anything is going on.

Thanks for any replies.

Built one of these ages ago and think it's great! Still use it heavily in my live sets for drones and screeches. But i was wondering if it is possible to wire it so one of the oscillators modulates the other?

is it just a case of feeding one oscilator into the other instead of to the output???

thanks

No, I'm afraid you need two oscillators to do this.  There is only one oscillator, it just has two outputs, one shaped differently than the other.

Its sad that I still cant get this to work? All I can get it to do is make an unholy pounding noise, not at all what I want. I thought it would make a triangle wave similar (in the idea that it atleast makes a note) to a square wave oscilator with a 40106 chip. As of now I cant get that to happen.

Is it only supposed to make a throb or did I mess it up?
