i just thought of an idea that would be really handy for me. taking an electronic drum sets kick drum pedal (or maybe just a smooth trigger from some kind of pedal) and using that to control the gate of a small noise generator with a low pass filter on it so i could either create a snare noise sound or a kick drum sound. it'd probably need a simple ASDR that could control the Level and the Filter.

anybody have any advice on supplies i should get?
kits?
where do i start?

thanks!

There are many schematics out there for simple one-drum drum synths, most of which are intended to be controlled by an external piezo trigger or momentary switch.  Look at all of the "syn" boxes here:

Also google for DIY Drum synth, you get things like this:

actually i have another question about the triggering. what exactly makes a CV gate trigger? can i make a kick pedal from an electronic drum set into a cv trigger? a midi sustain pedal? can i convert these kinds of switches into the proper CV signal?

thanks,
johnny

It depends on the electronic drum.  A normally open momentary switch can be a CV/gate signal if you connect one end to V+ and the other to the CV/gate in.  A piezo might take some more circuitry.
