I didn't have any succes with getting this thing to work with a RC filter on the power supply as suggested her: http://www.geocities.com/tpe123/folkurb ... ppets.html

I tried building it without the filter which gave me a loud tone from the VCO at all times. However, if a 1K resistor and a led is connected from +9V to GND before the chip's power pin, it is almost quiet until it's fed with an input. I also added a switch to select a range for the VCO and pot to attenuate the output. This is an easy build if you want a very decent ring modulator-like effect. Could probably use a buffer on the input.

No, sorry. I don't even have the Thing Modulator V3.0 I built. Just gave it to a friend earlier today ... I'll make one for myself soon and upload some sound clips. To be honest, I think it sounds great with some audio sources and not so good with others. Piano, violin, bass, and guitar (with fuzz distortion) sounds great. Speech sounds not so good. Haven't had the time to try it on drum loops yet.

Great idea!  I was working on a stripboard layout for the Thing Modulator and I can add this mod easily (when I find the time of course).
I wonder if this would be benificial to add to the Mayhem circuit:

(That's another one I need to find time for)

Did you use a 3mm or 5mm LED?
Thanks again!

I used a 5mm red led. To (almost) null the VCO, it is crucial that you use a LMC567.
