I was trying to build a 4017 sequencer to use with the now functional moog prodigy i rescued from the trash.  I based the design on the picture at the voice of saturn page:
http://http://curiousinventor.com/kits/voice_of_saturn_sequencer

I only made 5 hard wired steps so as to remove all the expensive "reset" parts.  5 because thats how many pots I had.

So I wired it up and the LEDs are screaming along, and the only thing I had to buy was the GI JOE lunch box I put it in.  My problem is that I cannot get the S trig to work.  The sequencer will only control via the keyboard and filter inputs, thus rendering the two lovely moog envolopes useless...  Is there somthing I'm doing wrong?  The only adjustments I made to the circuit shouldn't effect its functionality.  I measured the s trig output with my multimeter and it was jiving around 5.6 volts.  It's still really fun to be able to control the synth, but I want to be able to trigger the envelopes too. Any tips?

The Moog S trigger system is a 'short the ground' trigger, so that 5.6 volts needs to short to ground to trigger the envelopes. Does you Prodigy have the 2 prong Cinch Jones connector socket? I modded my old Prodigy to trigger from Roland type positive triggering, I added a 3.5mm trigger socket using one of those little holes used for calibrating the oscillators (just above the Cv input sockets). You can just add a very simple transistor invertor with a couple of resistors to do this (it works for old Korg stuff too). I can look out the circuit if you need it. Also, you might try isolating the tigger out from your sequencer from the metal case - you may be grounding it.

the Cinch Jones is still there, but someone added a quarter inch connector to it.  To test the short do I just look for the voltage to drop to zero?

As a test, you should just be able to trigger the envelopes by shorting the two terminals of the Cinch Jones together. As the extra jack has been added its worth looking inside to see if it's connected, and if any mods have been made.
