This is still in an exceptionally primitive state, but I want you all to tear it apart anyway. Feedback positive and negative appreciated, as I'm not the intended audience, I may have overlooked something big. http://binauralaboratories.net/lab/artifact.htmI just now reached the point where I have eliminated 404 hits from the navigation menu. Some of those pages are little more than placeholders. I intend on providing ample images on certain scopes, but please let me know what you would like to see evidence of anyway. PM, thread on or shoot me a gmail, my address should be pretty easy to figure out. Cheers.

It is indeed a large ranging topic. I'm trying to focus on the particulars surrounding repurposing old test gear for audio applications, and little to nothing more.
It'd be easy to let it snowball into a generalized old equipment topic, but that's what the rest of the internet is for IMO.

cool - how about a place for us to post pics/info about our archaic gear?
i've got an old tube audio generator - outputs sine/square with a huge range. i also have a really old militaristic oscilloscope, which i can't figure out how to use.

cool - how about a place for us to post pics/info about our archaic gear? There's always threads like this.... Regarding binauralaboratories though, I think I'd have to migrate to another host to be able to successfully implement a discussion board or ftp site, and there are already so many good ones it'd be a bit like recreating the wheel. Let me throw that around though, as I'm sure there are more options than what I've considered in the past.. but in the meantime, I'd like to see this stuff of which you speak, sounds tasty.

I'm always looking for ways to put the "S" in experimentalistS anonymous so I'd be happy to host it here if you want. -Colin

I'd be happy to host it here if you want. Intriguing, how would that work? A forum dedicated to old equipment or... ? I started a google group email list for anyone interested. There is limited file storage bandwidth of 100 MB, so it's not a really good gallery type vehicle, but that where photobucket, etc come in. http://groups.google.com/group/binaural ... ries?hl=enAs yet the purpose of the list is pretty undefined, I just realized I better scoop up my studio name for good measure. I think a forum of sorts would be a better vehicle for this sort of thing though. Anyway, it's still in early stages..

Yeah, an old equipment forum of sorts, in addition to experimentalistsanonymous.com/binaural or something along those lines. -Colin

i think it's a great idea to add another area to the forum for old equipment, alongside the rest of the forums like effects and circuit bending...

Maybe even take it one step farther, and have it dedicated to generally repurposing things for sound, whether it be old equipment, small engines, fans, washing machines....

While we're on the subject of experimentlist(S), it would be cool if forum members could make a user space where they can easily upload pictures and info of things they've created/modified.

For sure... I'm slowly trying to make the forum and the datasheet/schematic sections integrated which would be a astep in that direction. -Colin

that's definitely a step in the right direction.
just to clarify what i was talking about - i meant a space where, for instance, you could make a page called "Colin's Creations" (excuse the cheesiness) and upload a picture and description and people could comment on it... but now that i think of it, that would probably be easier done inside the actual forum... so on second thought, maybe a forum dedicated to people's finished works would be more appropriate.
