i just had a few ideas about this DOD pedal and wanted to know what you guys thought...

1) would it be possible to replace the digital switching with a simpler true bypass stomp switch?  If so, could i remove all of the J-Fets that are hooked up to the switching microchip with only a diode and a resister between them?

2) the "Spikes" knob acts as a treble cut.  Would replacing that part of the circuit (R56, R48, C207, C227, P2, leaving pins 1,2,3 of U24 unused) with a simpler tone circuit change the sound too drastically?

Here's the schematic:

Thanks in Advance

Hello,

I mapped out the schematic that you refer to from an FX76 that I got on eBay.  Glad to see someone is using it.
The FX76 is a weird pedal.  It seems to have two seperate halves with two seperate distortion circuits.  They both sound bad by themselves and there is only one or two points where they are mixed that sound good.  The PUNK knob mixes the two distortion circuits.

All the switching circuitry could be bypassed by a real double-pole, double-toggle footswitch.  Q61, Q62, and Q63 are the effect off/on FET switch transistors.  Q64 is an input buffer so don't remove that one.   The problems with a true bypass switch is locating one and mounting it into the DOD case.  And finding the right points to wire it into the circuit.  Wire the effect to be permanently on and then use the true bypass to switch it in and out.

Bypass the SPIKES by jumping from U25a pin 1 to C223.  Remove or lift one end of R45 to keep the SPIKES circuit from sucking the tone.  The MEANACE knob is a volume control for the distortion.  The SLAM control sets the amount of distortion when the PUNK knob is in the full clockwise position.

I didn't like the FX76 and resold it on eBay.  I think the FX86 Death Metal sounds better.  Or the Digikey X-Series Hot Rod.  Many people think that these are just nasty toys and not real distortions.  But I don't think so.  The Death Metal and the Grunge are great for simple fast 'wall of noise' three chord headbanger stuff like old Ramones, ect...

Hi there:

Im new in soldernig electronic components, im interested in modding pedal effects, in this case i have plenty dod pedals which id like to mod, in fact i own 2 dod punkifiers and i wish anyone could explain or tell me if theres a way to separate the overdrive sound and the fuzz sound, my interest is only having the fuzz sound in a pedal and or maybe adding oscillator for total sonic destruction hehe, hope anyone can help me and making it simple on how about removing which electronic components since im new in this

Thanks a lot
