Need some help for a 40106 synth with sequencer

Hello
Ive already built a 556 APC with a 4 step sequencer (4017). It was good but not good range in sound.
Now i´ve been playing with the CMOS 40106 and it easly can create a great range of sounds . Also it has 8 outputs for 8 diferent oscilators.
I was thinking it would be great to have a sequence and each step with its own oscilator. So i thought a 555 for the clock to the 4017 sequencer. And each output of the sequencer would go into the the 40106 oscilator and create a square wave. So i could have a unique oscilator for each step.
So thats the theory, I dont know if it really works but would like some advise if anyone could help?
Ok i´ve tried that. a 555 clock for the 4017 that outputs for the 40106 square generator but all i got was small bumps, maybe the 4017 output current isnt enough to drive the square oscilators. Any advise?
