Hi guys, I was messing around with my SR-16 today (Alesis), and I don't think it's as bad a drum machine as is made out, so, I had this idea, I am going to buy another one, and midi sync them, then modify the clock on one of them, and use it for glitchy goodness, and have the other one running a straight drum pattern, and I was wondering, will the clock modification affect the timing over midi if it is running via a clock signal from the unbent one? because I don't want to go out of time.

Thanks,
Velbright

The HR16 can be set to sync to external MIDI clock or follow it's own. I imagine the SR is similar, just set one to follow clock (but ignore note commands, which the "master" can send, unless....)

Been about 15 years since I've owned an SR-16, I've fond memories of it.

But if I replace the clock that is running the CPU or ROM with a 555 or something, so that I can change the pitch of samples beyond the 7 semitone range, will it still midi sync if the CPU clock is turned up or down?

I'm not sure if the MIDI process & the sound banks share a clock reference or not. I have heard bent MIDI machines play, so I'd guess you stand a chance of being OK. If your work is going to impede the functionality of the device, all bets are off...

I'm not a circuit bender though, so I really can't say.

Good luck!

if you can change the pitch of the drum sounds in one of the machines, it shouldnt affect the midi, especially if its only recieving midi, as midi is a one way signal...

but if your bends mess with patterns and things like that, it will certainly affect the midi out, and potentially affect how the bent machine processes the code

bmessin with your cpu clock or whatever can definatly affect the midi out.

Yeah, I'm gonna have a vanilla drum machine providing the clock, I'm just wondering if it'll recieve midi ok if the rom has a different clock.
