Can anyone help improve my Theremin?

Just as a little experiment I breadboarded a Theremin using 2 oscillators of a 4093. One very high pitch modulating a lower pitched one. To my joy it worked although it took a bit of tuning.
The effective hand to antenna distance is only a couple of inches and I'm wondering how I could improve this and any other tips.

I'm guessing if you change the base frequency of the oscillators (maybe they're running at 500 kHz) it will affect the range.  I'm not sure though - you might take a look at pre-existing theremin schematics and see how they do the tuning.  Good luck.

Mmmm? Not sure I understand base frequencies. I need to do a bit of reading me thinks

I mean "base frequency" as the frequency of each oscillator.  Theremins normally involve two very high frequency oscillators; one has a fixed frequency and the other has a variable frequency which is altered based on the location of your hand.  The frequency difference is what ends up in the audio range and is what you hear.  I was suggesting that you make the frequency of both oscillators higher.

As Colin said, increasing frequency may help for the reason that capacitance (from your body) has a bit more influence on a radio "tuned circuit".

The other angle to experiment with is your "antenna". How much the Theremin is influenced is going to depend upon the length and design of the antennas involved. Can you tell us anything about them?  Maybe we can offer more ideas.
