Hey experimentalists,

If you've got a crusty on TI SN76477 hanging around the parts bin, Thomas Henry and I worked up a new application for it.  It's a voice module with noise/pulse, triangle, EG and LFO outputs.

Unlike most SN76477 projects, this is not just a dedicated weird noise maker (though it'll do that, too).  Thomas put a V/Oct expo converter on it, and it tracks well enough for keyboard use.

Schematics, circuit details, samples are here:

Cheers,

Thanks Scott (and Thomas)!

I have a Super Controller populated and ready to wire up. Nice to have another Thomas Henry SN76477 project to look forward to!

Any thoughts on whether Ray Wilson minds selling his tempcos to people not buying his other stuff?

I dug up these chips last summer and built (what I thought) was an advanced controller for them using an Atmel AVR microprocessor and multi-channel DAC.  I used the little brother chip, the SN94281.  I uploaded the application to here but it got removed due to being too specialized.

I recommend using 555 timers to switch the sound-type logic (SLF/VCO/Noise).  Use one on each line and have them switch the logic between high and low at an adjustable rate of .2 to 7 Hertz.  That gives a good adjustable pattern generator.  Connecting these chips to microprocessors really is too much unless you want to get specifically patterns to repeat.

sidandnancy,

I don't think Ray minds at all.  We exchange emails now and then, and he's never been anything but supportive.

Cheers,
Scott

Thanks Scott. His price is better than what his source quoted me.

Simonetta, Colin put your  Arcade Synthesizer.zip in his archive files in the " Full Synths and Drum Synths" folder. I still have your Beep Box on my "things to do" list!
