so what are people like DBA doing for their custom graphics? they look like they are screening those, but no one would do one-off screens for a single pedal or it would cost like $50 extra (although i guess i might if it comes to that ). i kind of doubt they are stickers, and i'm pretty sure they aren't etched either.
so what’s the secret? isn't there some sort of press and peel thing that can be done, but i don't think its printable? is it?

depending on detail level you can always make a stencil with acetate or something. I made a new logo for my nasty sovtek amp on some plexiglass with stencils . . . you wouldn't be able to do the lettering unles it was pretty chunky or you're a genius at keeping the floating peices in place and sticking them down with spray adhesive before you paint the stencil, but we're talking microscopic dots inside the little e's.

i was just talking to my little brother about how one of the local sign shops or car graphics shops can knock out some adhesive stencils, perfectly cut, cheaper then screening. but i'm trying to figure out a way to get the cost down to less then $5. they can also do multi-color stickers and then you can fit the pedals with a clear coat and be done with it. that might end up being the best way. but i find it hard to justify for a one-off pedal unless your selling it fairly high. he got something like a square yard of custom sticker work with various designs, colors and sizes. one about the size of a poster and he only paid $50 including setup. so it might be cool to just come up with something universal for a bunch of different stuff and get them all done at once. it would be so nice to own something like one of their vinyl printers.
but if im going to spend $50 i can just print a screen myself and buy some nazdar. so i'm still waiting to find out the secret. maybe people like DBA and the rest are charging around $50 for custom art. thats the only way i see it working. or just taking forever and getting single custom stickers made? it would be cheaper and easier but this could take a week or more.

Take a look at my website here: http://www.mikmo.dk/synthpanels.htmlThis shows how i make frontpanels for my synth. This could be adapted for pedal "panels". Mine are all black and white, but since i use a color laser printer, they could be any color

thanks mikmo
i never thought about using lamination. that would leave the option for full color stuff open too, and you wouldn't actually need to use a laser printer. any print will work.

The reason i chose a color laser printer is that, strange as it may sound, color laseres print black "more black" than black and white laserprinters, and since all my panles are black with white text i wanted "the blackest black", and i have access to a very good printer at work

nazdar is cool stuff, but mucho expensive and a pain to work with. a lot split would be ok, save for the fact that its messy business for whoever undertakes that kind of thing, and shipping is probably not that cromulent. also you can't mix colors, so a simple white black blue red yellow situation won't really work. Personally, i just made friends with some cats at a sign shop, and they let me make the screens and do one offs for me on the cheap-ish. -justin

I've heard of ppl using the water slide decals, you can get sheets that are laser printable or inkjet printable....you put them on then clearcoat it to seal it tight... http://www.decalpaper.com/I'm trying to find a source in canada to save some $, no luck yet, but I think this is the most inexpensive way to get pro results.

Wow, that's a great-looking pedal. I've only used the water slide decals, but I'm going to have to try out that vinyl now. Okay, so two questions... how do you protect the sticker, just a few coats of clear? Also, what type of graphics software did you use for that design?

right but i did about 10 coats on these just to be safe and i use photoshop but you can use whatever, even just ms-paint can get you some cool stuff.
if you need a hand with graphics i probably help knock something out. pretty fast too. just give me some idea of what you want. that goes for anyone. just ask
