Howdy. Derek from Berlin here. I've been doing programming with Pure Data for 5 years or so now, and I got very tired with laptop music and working with computers. This year is the year of the analog for me!

There's a few things occupying my time right now. First is an optoelectronic synthesizer "system" using an overhead projector, transparent tonewheels spun with motors and phototransistors:

http://http://www.umatic.nl/tonewheels.html

Then there's various sound sculptures I've been making:

http://http://www.neongallery.nu/exhibitionsandevents/Current/ljudskulptur/index.htm

And then there's building proper generators and effects for my Doepfer/AS/Cwejman A100 modular system.

I play solo:

and with an Argentinian death metal drummer named Marcelo Aguirre:

I like the look of this board so far. I spend a lot of time on the Synth DIY mailing list, because the people who post there are absolute geniuses, and usually have a proper background in electronics. But I miss the messy, noise side of things there, as they all want to make perfect VCOs that don't drift and play proper musical scales and all sorts of other rocket science which is a bit overkill for my purposes ;-)

Looking forward to the discussions!

best,
d.

Welcome Derek,

Your stuff looks great, very interested in hearing more about your work. Very nice to have an experimental sculptur around!

Hello,

My name is Austin, I'm 25 and I'm out of DeKalb, IL.  I lived in Chicago for a couple of years and got hipped to circuit bending by Patrick M. of Roth Mobot.  I've since befriended other circuit-benders like Alex D. who runs getlofi.com and Dan aka Spunky Toofers.

It's been about 3 years since I started bending and I have done about 10 or so projects.  I, like a lot of other people who have ended up here, am now more interested in making circuits that make noise on their own or interface with bent devices.  I have one specific project that I have been working on for a long time and I desperately need help with it.  That will be my next post to the board after this one.

For now, check out my myspace page:
http://www.myspace.com/cremedementia

and my Youtube channel:

http://www.youtube.com/user/CremeDeMentia

That about sums it up!

Hi all, my name's Alex. I'm a 21 year old music tech student in the UK, currently doing a project on distortion/overdrive pedals. I've been playing guitar since I was about 9, so that must be about 12 years now. In terms of music, I'm mostly into rock/metal, although I like a bit of everything. Well, except dance music. I mean, they don't even try!

Anyway, I'm hoping to do some more independent projects after the one I'm doing at the moment, maybe I'll have a full pedal board in a couple of years :juggle:

Try it, it's fun :D

Edit: Oh yes, I may be a music tech student, but I'm not great with elecronics. It makes up only a small part of my course, and what I've been taught so far is mega basic, so excuse me if I seem a little slow with it all.

hi everyone,

i compose/perform experimental music and sound art, transplanted from the heart of texas to the edge of scotland. been doing stuff like this for a while but should be much better at it than i am-total caveman approach to the whole thing. i can't believe i've missed this site though, really happy to have found it.

i've just been accepted for a residency at steim in a few months to make an instrument where i combine many of my own bends and stuff i've stolen out of books (ghazala, collins, and others)....sort of a modular thing with circuit bent items, hacked electronics, and rewired consumer stuff.

so looking forward to picking people's brains to figure out some tech stuff (how to power multiple items that each take different numbers of batteries for one...)

anyway, looking forward to it.

Hey all, I live in Chicago and have just gotten into electronics in the past six months or so. I make synthesizer music (think Popol Vuh, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, etc.) and started getting more and more interested in the technical side of things after I assembled my Synthesizers.com modular synth. I'm just getting into breadboarding things and I'm going to have a billion questions.

Well hello there.

My name is Richard, I'm a student in UK, and I'm been playing music for ages and ages, but have finally gotten round to starting a campaign of (circuit bending) terror, starting with a crappy no name keyboard from Yorkshire Trading Company.

I'm also a solo-artist, playing sorta noisy-electro-pop, check out my stuff at http://www.myspace.com/manisslapped

I have been looking around the internet for a good place to come for circuit bending tips, and came across this site! I remember colin from back in the days of HCFX forum, back when I used to spend hours on there - now, not at all. Shame.

In any case, I'll be asking a load of questions in the near future soon, so be gentle ;)
