Need to fix one of these
I assume that removing D5 & R53 will enable a normal power supply (9V regulated, isolated ground) to work,

I think D5 will block DC if an incorrect polarity PSU is used & R53 may provide a load or lift the PSU ground a little in reference to signal (don't know exactly). This device is already outfitted to operate off an external power supply..
It seems to me, if you're just interested in supplanting the power supply with one of your own (I'm thinking fully built independent PSU here), there are three points to concern yourself with, the empty triangle (9 volts) the solid triangle (? volts dropped for the digital power rail) and ground
