Is there a way to tell (visually) if a pot is LOG or Linear?

Linear pots are marked with a B, or LIN, and Log pots are marked with an A, or LOG (remember, A for audio...)
You can use a multimeter to find out which it is also - turn the shaft of the pot half way round approximately, and the resistance should be approximately half of the value of the pot if the pot is LIN. if it is not roughly half, then it is LOG.
You can turn a LIN into a LOG - google it.
